The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy, which was formed 13.2 billion years ago, at the same time as the other galaxies.
It is in the empyrean a path that can easily be distinguished by a serene sky; it is called the Milky Way; its brilliant whiteness signals it to all eyes.
This is where the gods from above go to the royal residence where the sovereign ruler of thunder resides. 1
The Milky Way includes 100 billion stars, including the Sun in one of its arms.
Its diameter is 100,000 light years to a thickness of 2000 light-years. Only 10% is visible to us, the rest being dark matter, of unknown nature.
The Milky Way like many galaxies is home to a super massive black hole in its center, 3 million times the mass of the Sun.
Our galaxy takes its name from a legend, where Zeus wanted to render Hercules immortal, approached Hera asleep to give him the breast. Hera repulsed the child, the illegitimate son of Zeus and Alcmene, a mortal, then spreading his milk which thus formed the Milky Way.
