The natural port of Monaco offers a coastal refuge known since antiquity when it takes the name of
portus Herculus
: port Hercule.
It became a stopover for the Romans between Italy and Spain and Julius Caesar stopped there in 50 BC.
In 2008, the port was extended by adding a concrete breakwater with a length of 200 meters.
