Storms
A natural phenomenon is the manifestation of a force of nature or the action of one of its elements:
- Astronomical phenomena : Exogenous to Earth
- Eclipses of the Sun or the Moon, ...
- Atmospheric phenomena: including meteorological phenomena (lower part of the atmosphere)
- Luminous phenomena: halos, rainbows, ...
- Atmospheric disturbances : thunderstorms, storms, strong winds, ...
- Cloudy phenomena : clouds, fog, ...
- Phenomena of precipitations : rain, snow, hail, sleet, ...
- Geological phenomena : terrestrial activity
- Earthquakes, volcanism, ...
- Natural disasters : resulting from a natural phenomenon
- Avalanches, fires, floods, ground movements, ...
The major natural risks of the Riviera region are classified into seven categories:
- Climate risks: conjunction of Mediterranean and mountain climates (hinterland)
- Risk of ground movements: steep terrain and clay soils
- Seismic risk: sinking of the African plate under the European plate
- Risk of marine submersion and coastal erosion: Mediterranean coast
- Risk of flooding: Mediterranean type rainfall regime with a torrential character
- Risk of forest fires: forest areas and summer drought
- Avalanche risk: high mountains with peaks exceeding 3000 meters
