Protohistory marks the transition between prehistory and history, formed by the Age of Metals as well as the Neolithic that it follows.
The time of protohistory, which varies depending on the region, is that of metalworking, which follows the Neolithic revolution which precedes it:
- Neolithic : appearance of agriculture and livestock breeding, around 5000 years before our era in Europe.
- Age of Metals : discovery of metallurgy with the treatment of metals
- Copper Age : appeared more than 3500 years before our era in Europe,
- Bronze Age : between 1800 and 1500 BC.
