The red cabbage bug feeds on Brassicaceae sap (ex Crucifers) which includes cabbage, turnip, rapeseed, mustard, horseradish, watercress ...
The cabbage bug is less than a centimeter. In the adult stage, it is red and black, while in the larva state the red is replaced by yellow. Those bugs emit a foul odor via a gland located under the chest in adults.
They differ from a neighboring species by the presence of a whiteish band following a black point, on each side of its back.
The red cabbage bug should not be confused with another species better known as firebug which is completely harmless. Firebugs have a much simpler drawing with a central triangle followed by two large black dots.
