Ladybugs or ladybirds, also called beetles take their name from the Latin coccinus meaning scarlet, because of their commonly red colors even if this one may vary depending on the species.
Beetles are used in gardens to eliminate aphids.
The seven-spot ladybird, five of its spots being visible here, is a species native to Europe, not to be confused with the Asian ladybug, which is an invasive species, harmful to native ladybugs.
